VYSA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
June 18, 2011
The Annual General Meeting of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association, Inc. was called to order by President Denise Edwards at the Sheraton Richmond West at 10:20 am after all members were checked in.
Denise Edwards reported that representatives from each member club or league were asked to sign in on arrival. The following members were present: Annandale Boys and Girls Club, Chantilly Soccer Club, Churchland Soccer Club, DC Stoddert Soccer League, Loudoun Youth Soccer Association, Radford Soccer CLub, Soccer Organization of Charlottesville-Albemarle, Vienna Youth Soccer, Virginia Rush, Blue Ridge Classic League, National Capital Soccer League, Old Dominion Soccer League, SOCA-Skyline Soccer League, Virginia Club Champions League, Virginia Soccer League, Inc. A quorum was established.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the June 19, 2010, Annual General Meeting. The motion was approved.
Vice President Bob Maynes presented the proposed 2011-2012 VYSA Budget for approval. A motion was made and seconded to approve the proposed budget. Bob noted two significant changes: an increase in interest income and an increase in insurance expense due to increased claims. Moving the State office resulted in a significant savings, but there were costs associated with the move. The motion to approve the 2011-2012 VYSA Budget (Attachment A) was adopted.
President Denise Edwards chaired the elections. The Chair announced the following individuals had been nominated for Officer Positions: Bob Maynes for the position of Vice President and Debi Honaker for the position of Secretary; and that each had accepted the nomination.
The chair announced the following individuals had been nominated for Recreational Commissioner positions on the VYSA Board of Directors: Ken Bass for the position of North Recreational Commissioner; Roger Underhill for the position of Central Recreational Commissioner; and John Singleton for the position of West Recreational Commissioner; and that each had accepted the nomination.
The Chair announced the following individuals had been nominated for Travel Commissioner positions on the VYSA Board of Directors: Dave Amsler was nominated by VCCL for the position of VCCL Travel Commissioner; and Chris Friant was nominated by VSLi for the position of VSLi Travel Commissioner; and Karen Klumpp was nominated by ODSL for the position of ODSLTravel Commissioner; and that each had accepted the nomination.
No other nominations ere received by the required deadline. A motion was made and seconded to declare the nominees elected by acclamation. The motion was approved.

No proposed amendments to the By-Laws were submitted for approval.
Reports to the membership were made. State Administrator Julie Caramanica reported that player registrations for the current seasonal year are up over 3% from the prior year. Clubs and leagues were reminded to send all final registrations to the State Office before the end of the seasonal year.
It was reported that the date for the annual VYSA Convention is not yet set, but it is expected to be the first weekend in February. She encouraged members to attend with representatives from all their programs. Several topics being considered were shared.
Members were reminded to continue to check the VYSA web site for current association information. It was reported that VYSA now has a Facebook page and the membership was encouraged to have all their members sign up to receive postings.
VYSA is now sending all correspondence by e-mail. Members were reminded that current contact information for each member organization is essential for keeping the membership informed of all VYSA news and current information.
Insurance Committee Chair Jim Bonfils encouraged members to contact him with any questions regarding insurance.
Secretary Debi Honaker thanked the registrats for their hard work in preparing for next year’s database.
TOPSoccer Chair Bob Sokolinsky explained that this is the outreach program for children with special needs. He noted it is a wonderful experience for all those involved and encouraged members to volunteer. Bob reported that VYSA has held several clinics this past year, including hosting the Region I TOOSoccer symposium in March. A TOPSoccer Committee has been formed to help the program function. Their goal is to have every city in Virginia establish an active TOPSoccer program. A Festival will be held in July in conjunction with the VYSA Kohl’s American Cup in Spotsylvania. Members were encouraged to bring as many children as possible. Buddies are needed to partner with each player.
State Cup and Presidents Cup Director Anne Thompson reported taht State Cup Champions will compete in Regional Competition next month and she is hoping to have several teams advance to the National Championships. Next year’s State Cup calendar will be posted soon.
Anne reported VYSA will continue to run the Presidents Cup, a second tier State Cup, in the Fall if fields and referees are available. Jim Bonfils reported that a VYSA team, U14 Boys Virginia Rush Swoosh, advanced to National Presidents Cup that will take place in July.
President Denise Edwards reported that a proposed fee increase from US Youth Soccer, due to the loss of sponsorship, is not expected. Cuts in spending to decrease losses reported at the Region I President’s meeting showed a significant decrease in the budget deficit. She will report more after the US Youth Soccer AGM at the end of July.
A motion was made and seconded to ratify the actions of the Board for the past year. The motion was approved.
There being no further business, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed. The meeting was adjourned at 10:50 pm.
