VYSA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
June 15, 2013
The Annual General Meeting of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association, Inc. was called to order by President Denise Edwards at the Country Inn and Suites in Fredericksburg at 10:30 am.
Denise Edwards reported that representatives from each member club or league were asked to sign in on arrival. The following members were present: Annandale Boys and Girls Club, Arlington Soccer Association, Churchland Soccer League, DC Stoddert Soccer League, Fauquier County Soccer Clubs, Soccer Organization of Charlottesville-Albemarle, Vienna Youth Soccer, Virginia Rush, National Capital Soccer League, Old Dominion Soccer League, SOCA-Skyline Soccer League, Virginia Soccer League, Inc., Washington Area Girls Soccer League. A quorum was established.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the June 16, 2012, Annual General Meeting. The motion was approved.
Vice President Bob Maynes introduced to the membership a new staff member, Patty Scuderi, VYSA Finance Director, replacing another staff member who had taken a new job. Bob explained the new reporting format. He explained that due to the new format, there were no comparative numbers. He noted the budget did not yet show, but financials would now begin to show, salary expenses spread to the specific programs where appropriate.
Bob presented the proposed 2013-2014 VYSA Budget for approval. A motion was made and seconded to approve the proposed 2013-2014 VYSA Annual budget. The motion to approve the 2013-2014 VYSA Budget (Attachment A) was adopted.
President Denise Edwards chaired the elections. The Chair explained that only one nomination for each position was received except for the Central Recreation Commissioner for which no nomination was received.
The Chair announced the following individuals had been nominated for Officer Positions: Bob Maynes for the position of Vice President and Debi Honaker for the position of Secretary; and that each had accepted the nomination.
The Chair then announced the following individuals had been nominated for Recreational Commissioner positions on the VYSA Board of Directors: Ken Bass for the position of North Recreational Commissioner; John Singleton for the position of West Recreational Commissioner; and that each had accepted the nomination.
The Chair then announced the following individuals had been nominated for Travel Commissioner positions on the VYSA Board of Directors: Dave Amsler was nominated by VCCL for the position of VCCL Travel Commissioner; Chris Friant was nominated by VSLI for the position of VSLI Travel Commissioner; and Karen Klumpp was nominated by ODSL for the position of ODSL Travel Commissioner; and that each had accepted the nomination.
Since no other nominations could be made for those positions, the Chair declared nominations for those positions closed. A motion was made and seconded to declare the nominees for the VYSA Board of Directors: Bob Maynes for the position of Vice President and Debi Honaker for the position of Secretary; Ken Bass for the position of North Recreational Commissioner; and John Singleton for the position of West Recreational Commissioner; Dave Amsler for the position of VCCL Travel Commissioner; Chris Friant for the position of VSLI Travel Commissioner and Karen Klumpp for the position of ODSL Travel Commissioner elected by acclamation. The motion was approved.
President Denise Edwards reported that recommendations to fill the empty recreation commissioner positions will be accepted and according to the Bylaws, appointments will be made to those positions in the near future.

Reports to the membership were made.
VYSA Administrator Julie Caramanica reported that registration numbers overall for VYSA were up. She commended the membership for their continued good work in increased membership. Those in attendance were reminded that the VYSA Convention and Awards Reception has not yet been scheduled, but is expected to be held in early February as in years past and it is planned for Northern Virginia. She encouraged members to attend with representatives from their programs. Members were encouraged to contact the State Office by phone or e-mail at any time when needing assistance.
President Denise Edwards thanked those who took the time and made the drive to the AGM. She too, encouraged the members to attend the annual Workshop and to bring their members to attend. It is an important opportunity to learn about many aspects of soccer and to network with others in the soccer community.
A motion was made and seconded to ratify the actions of the Board for the past year. The motion was approved.
VYSA Treasurer Jim Bonfils noted that any members with questions regarding Finance numbers or Financial reporting should contact him at any time.
Jim spoke regarding Presidents Cup. Jim also serves on the Region I committee for Presidents Cup. He reported that VYSA had three teams advance as Region I Champions this year: one U12 VA Rush team, and two U16 teams. The two U16 teams, Boys VSA Heat and Girls FASA Impact, will compete in the National Championship this summer in Florida.
Jim Bonfils also chairs the Insurance Committee. He reported no changes will take place with our insurance coverage. He noted that the supplemental medical coverage has a $500 deductible, but that VYSA experiences some of the lowest rates in the country.
State Cup and Presidents Cup Chair Anne Thompson reported to the membership on the status of those two programs. Presidents Cup competition is run entirely in the Fall and includes U17 through U12 age groups for both boys and girls. She noted that currently, Presidents Cup is small, but growing and VYSA teams have been very successful. She encouraged more teams to compete. President Denise Edwards reported her observation for Presidents Cup has shown it to be a great experience for teams advancing that might not have the opportunity to compete in Regional and National competition. She encouraged teams that might not advance in State Cup to also compete in Presidents Cup.
Anne reported that State Cup competition is complete and this years State Champions will compete in just a few weeks at Regional Competition. She also noted there are other opportunities for elite teams to compete in higher levels of competition.
There being no further business, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed. The meeting was adjourned at 10:55 am.
