ODP PLAYER NAMED TO U20 WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM

Katie Cousins, from the 1996 Virginia ODP team, has just been selected for the upcoming US Soccer U20 Women’s National team trip to La Manga, Spain from March 1-12. The 16 year old Lynchburg native earned the call up to the U20 team after a recent stellar performance at a training camp for the U18 Women’s National Team.

“It is highly unusual and a tremendous accomplishment for a 16 year old, after only one U18 training camp, to get called into the U20’s. She played well for Virginia and the Region I team in every event leading up to this point. So it’s no surprise to hear that she must have performed extremely well,” claimed VYSA Technical Director Gordon Miller. “She is a very hard worker on the field and a very respectful young lady off it.”

Cousins will compete for the US against Norway on March 7, Germany on March 9 and Sweden on March 11. She will be able to draw on her past international experiences as she previously competed in Germany in 2011 and France in 2012 with her ODP team.

Katie currently plays her club soccer with the Richmond Kickers U17 Girls Elite team. Prior to that she spent her formative years with the Central Virginia United club out of Lynchburg, Va. Both clubs should be extremely proud of her.
