Two VYSA Teams Win Regional Championships and One Advances to National Competition
VYSA teams had great success at the Region I Championships this past month.  Seven teams advanced to the Semi-Finals and five advanced to Final with two teams emerging as Champions.  The U12 8v8 Girls Northern Virginia Soccer Club Jr. Majestics Gold won their final match against Connecticut by a score of 3 - 1 for the title of Region I Champion.  The U18 Boys McLean MPS FC competed against Eastern Pennsylvania and won by a score of 3 - 2 and will be representing  Region I as Champions at the National Championships in Little Rock Arkansas at the end of this month.  Congratulations to all our teams for their great efforts and success at Regional Competition and GOOD LUCK to the U18 Boys McLean MPS FC, bring us home a trophy!
VYSA 1993 Boys and Girls ODP Teams Win Region I ODP Championships, Advance National ODP Finals
VYSA had great success at this year’s Region I ODP Tournament held at Rider University in New Jersey. The `93 boys demolished Massachusetts in the final 5-1, whilst the `93 girls beat Eastern New York 1-0 to lay claim to their title.   Both 93 teams now go on to represent Region I at the National Championships.

Two other VYSA teams also had excellent displays with the ’91 boys losing in the final and the ’91 girls succumbing in the semis. A hearty congratulations goes out to the VYSA ODP as it placed four teams, more than any other state in the Region,  into the championship round . WAY TO GO ODP!

Memo from National Referee Manager on Padded Goal Post Structures
An issue has recently arisen regarding whether, under the Laws of the Game, the goalposts and/or the crossbar may be padded. The suggestion has been made that this could be considered a safety issue, that such padding is commercially available, and that it could be applied in such a way that the dimensions of the goal structure remain within the requirements of Law 1.
Make Goal Safety a Top Priority

All Clubs and Leagues, Coaches and Referees, and Parents and Players are asked to pay close attention to the safety of the goals on the fields you are using.  Just this past Spring, a young player was killed by a goal that fell on him.  Shortly after that incident another player was injured by a goal falling, only this one had a better ending. We ask all those involved in VYSA to place greater emphasis on Goal Safety.  This a reminder to  all soccer officials, spectators, and players to make sure the goals they are using are secure from falling.  Don’t let another tragedy occur.  Make sure our players are safe!
